Royal Navy Ship's Cap-tally "HMS Ark Royal".
Full-length ribbon with gold wire woven ship's name which has age-darkening / tarnish to some of the lettering otherwise excellent condition.
Five British warships have borne this name, probably the most famous being the WW2 aircraft-carrier which was involved in the Bismarck episode and was subsequently torpedoed and sunk off Gibraltar a few months later in 1941.
In the 1980s, a new HMS Ark Royal, an aircraft-carrier of the Invincible class was commissioned. It was finally decommissioned in 2011 when she was sold to the Turks for scrap.
