WW1 Trench Art Service-cap made from a German 75mm Shellcase.
British army service cap made from the base of a German 75mm calibre shell-case dated March 1917. The peaked cap has a copper chinstrap made from a driving band and is engraved with "Souvenir of the Great War 1914-19". Above the chinstrap is an etched badge which is possibly that of The King's Regiment. The base of the case, ie. the top of the cap bears the German ordnance stamps as follows :
St = Stark (strengthened)
G = G is the case manufacturer, Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, Geisslingen;
33 = Batch reference
März 1917 = March 1917 date
HL25 = case acceptance stamp from the Hauptlaboratorium, Ingolstadt, Bavaria.
