BRD : West German Bundeswehr Panzerschutzmütze (Panzer Crash-helmet).
Bundeswehr Panzer crewman's protective beret for armoured vehicle personnel modelled on the wartime issue. Olive-green wool cover with a BEVo machine-woven national cockade and crossed swords insignia. The removable cover is fitted over a hard helmet shell which has a black leather padded headband. The interior is lined with olive cotton under which would be a red sponge padding. The sponge has perished with time. The helmet contains a grey leather sweatband and label indicating manufacture by the firm of 'F.W.Pilz K.G'. It is faintly marked with the date '1963' and size '57'.
These helmets were only worn in the 1960s and are now very scarce. Excellent condition.
