WW2 Commemorative Medal marking the Allied Armies Entry into Naples.
WW2 unofficial brass medal (30mm dia) produced in Italy by various medalists to commemorate the entry into Naples, Italy by the British 8th Army on 1st October 1943. Variations were also produced marking the US 5th Army, British 8th Army and Allied Armies entries into Italy and Naples..{See item 54489).
This version for the 8th Army is complete with ribbon
The ribbon on the medal is that of the Italian Fascists 'March on Rome' medal therefore marking both the start and end of the Fascist regime in Italy. Being an unofficial medal, examples exist with various other ribbons. Some variations like this one include a boat in the Bay of Naples on the obverse and the British and US medals have suitably adapted legends on the reverse. .
