Full-length ribbon with gold wire woven ship's name which has some minor age-darkening / tarnish to part of the lettering otherwise excellent condition.
HMS Vernon was a Royal Navy shore establishment in Portsmouth. It was established on 26 April 1876, as the Royal Navy's Torpedo Branch or Torpedo School, named after the ship HMS Vernon which served as part of its floating base. HMS Vernon moved ashore after World War I, taking over the Gunwharf site in Portsmouth. It continued to operate there until 1 April 1996 by which time the various elements which made up the base had been dispersed and moved to different commands.
