This regiment was formed on October 14th, 1772 by Frederick the Great. They were first tested at the Battle of Zuckmantel in 1779 during the War of the Bavarian Succession. The unit would later go on to see action in Poland in 1794 at the Battle of Rawka & Siege of Warsaw. They were also present in 1806 & '07 against France at the Battles of Dirschau, Graudenz, and the defense of Danzig.
The No. 6 was frequently in the thickest of the fighting and had to be supplemented from other companies to recover from the heavy casualties. In 1808, the battered remains of the No. 6 were combined into the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment. What was left of the unit saw almost continual action with the 1st until 1815, when the regiment proudly entered Paris.
In 1816 the No. 6 was reformed and went on to serve for 100 more years until in 1916 it was finally merged into the Nr. 398 during World War One.
