WW1 National War Savings Committee Lapel-badge.

A scarce original WW1 period 'National War Savings Committee' badge; Black enamelled 20mm square brass badge with buttonhole fixing on the reverse. This early design features a swastika which was initially seen as a good-luck symbol but was later dropped when the emblem was adopted by the Nazi party in Germany.
The reverse carries the maker's mark 'J.A. Wylie & Co., London'. Very good condition with no damage to the enamel,
The National Savings Movement was established in 1916 to both help reduce borrowing and to raise funds for the war effort. The scheme continued until 1978 when it was finally dropped through lack of financial support from the government and the banking industry.
