France ; Silver Medal of the French Society for Aiding Military Wounded (Médaille de la Société de Secours aux Blessés Militaires 1864-1866).
This is a silver medal introduced with the formation of the Red Cross upon the signing of the Geneva Convention in 1864. The medal is 25mm dia with a decorative suspender. The obverse shows a woman protecting / aiding a wounded soldier with the legend "Patrie Devoument". The reverse has the name of the organisation. The medal has a French tricolour red / white / blue ribbon but originally it would have had a white ribbon bearing a woven red Geneva cross. Excellent condition.
