France : Satirical Coin / Lapel-badge Mocking the Deposed Napoleon III after the Franco-Prussian War.
Coin in the form of a French 5 centimes piece mocking the deposed Napoleon III after his defeat and capture in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. The obverse depicts Napoleon III wearing a Pickelhaube with a collar bearing 'Sedan' . Sedan was the battle in which Napoleon III was captured. The legend says "Napoleon III Le Miserable.....80,000 Prisonniers" The reverse bears a representation of an owl in place of the imperial eagle. This is surrounded by the legend "Vampire Francais 2. Dec 1854 - 2 Sept.1870". A buttonhole stud has been affixed to the reverse to allow the item to be worn. Rare Franco-Prussian War memento. Excellent condition.
