Third Reich : Wehrmacht / Heer (Army) & Waffen-SS "Prinz Eugen" Pattern Officers' Dress-sabre.

A nice example of the scarce and most desirable of the Field-Marshall series of dress swords. Carl Eickhorn's pattern No 1765 "Prinz Eugen" was popular with Waffen-SS officers as well as army officers. This particular example was brought back by a Company Commander with 9DLI. I obtained it from him with a number of other excellent items for my collection in 1989.
The sword and scabbard have an overall length of 104cms and a blade length of 85.5cms. The gilded hilt has almost all gilt remaining though slightly faded in some parts. The dove-head pommel bears a nice close-winged eagle & swastika and the cross-piece shows a detailed spread-winged eagle & swastika. Other metal parts of the hilt have leaf designs. The black grip has all original grip-wire tightly in place. An army officers green-leather and silver wire knot completes the hilt.
The bright polished full-length blade has all its finish though there is some minor scuffing along the edge. The ricasso beneath the langets has darkened and bears the manufacturer's squirrel logo with "Original Eickhorn Solingen" trademark.
The black painted scabbard has a suspension ring and hanger slot and has all its black finish with only some scuff marks on the lower portion. No dents or damage.
Overall a real nice honest example. More photos available on request.
