Third Reich : Willrich Postcard of Fallschirmjäger Oberst Bruno Bräuer.
146mm x 105mm coloured un-used postcard by artist W Willrich showing a 1940 portrait of Oberst Bräuer. He is shown wearing his Ritterkreuz which he won in 1940 for airborne operations in Holland. Later he participated in the air landings and capture of Crete where he was eventually military commander. His rule of Crete was harsh such that he was subsequently tried for war crimes and sentenced to death. He was executed in 1947 and lies in the German War Cemetery at Maleme, Crete. This card was originally from the 1940 VDA Schulsammlung series. It is captioned on the reverse to the effect that he was the premier paratrooper and victor of Dordrecht and Moerdijk.
