National Hospital Service Reserve Enameled Membership (King's crown) Lapel-badge.

Pre-1953 green and red enameled brass pin-back badge in excellent condition. The reverse bears the maker's name 'H.W.Miller Ltd, Branston St., Birmingham 18'. Formed in 1948 under the Civil Defence Act as a product of the Cold War, the NHSR was finally disbanded in 1968.
(The purpose of the National Hospital Service Reserve was to recruit, train and organise a peacetime reserve of men and women qualified in first aid and home nursing, who would, in time of war, not only provide the additional staff required for the greatly expanded hospital services, but would also man some 2,000 Mobile First Aid Units and some 800 static first-aid posts at hospitals).
