Imperial : German S98nA Walking-out / Dress Bayonet with Leather Scabbard.

Seitengewehr 98 neue Art (S98nA). - Private purchase highly polished steel pipe-back dress-bayonet with a swell-point in excellent condition. The grip consists of two wooden parts, each with 9 diagonal grooves, bolted in place. There is no oil-hole in the grip as on issue patterns. Likewise there are no makers marks, dates, ordnance or issue markings on either the bayonet or scabbard. The blade is 525mm long with a pipe-back and a spear-type point. The blade still retains its original felt washer. The polished steel-mounted leather scabbard has a frog-stud and the mounts are stapled in place.. The scabbard is 540mm long and consists of polished leather with two longitudinal impressed lines. The scabbard leather has an indentation on the front near the bottom chape which may account for the bayonet being stiff to finally push home. Overall a very nice bayonet which has been in my personal collection since May 1993.
